In addition to her performing career, Katherine is a proud educator. At the collegiate level, she is an adjunct professor at American University, specializing in musical theatre voice. She believes strongly in character driven approach to musical interpretation, and demands a high level of musicianship from her students. In addition to repertoire and performance, Katherine’s students are expected to excel at ear training, sight reading and music theory. She encourages students to explore a wide range of genres including classical and pop/rock in additional to musical theatre, as a form of cross training the voice to gain greater knowledge, control and versatility. Katherine values student’s individual needs, and works to build self-awareness, confidence and a skill set that can be carried through a lifetime of singing.

As a youth educator, Katherine runs a small business teaching piano, voice, guitar and music theory to children ages 5 - 15. She believes a child’s first exposure to music should be fun and positive but still challenging (and accomplishments are met with rewards!) Her creative and individualized approach has put her in extremely high demand in the DC metro area. Her love for working with children is seen in her kind demeanor and joyful expression, but she holds her students to a high standard of hard work, follow through and goal oriented learning.

"I’ve had the great joy of knowing Katherine ever since her own student days. The positivity and joy in singing that she exhibited along that road are now finding a new and fruitful expression in her work as the teacher of young musicians."

Linda Allison, DMA. Professor of Voice and Voice Area Coordinator at American University/Department of Performing Arts
